Kelapa Dua, Tangerang (June 22th, 2025) — In a quiet corner of RT 03, Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, a small but meaningful transformation has taken place. What was once an unused plot of land beside a children’s playground is now home to a thriving fish pond and a lush mini orchard—all the result of community effort and a shared vision.
The initiative began in 2015, led by Pak Soebroto, the head of RT 03, who invited residents to repurpose the empty land into a shared resource. The 4-by-6-meter pond now supports dozens of healthy tilapia and carp, while the surrounding area features fruit-bearing trees including mango, rose apple, longan, and breadfruit.
“This used to be just an empty space,” Pak Soebroto shared. “Now it’s something that brings people together and gives back to everyone.”
Residents take turns feeding the fish and cleaning the pond, maintaining it as a shared responsibility. During fruit season, children often join in to help harvest, making it not only a productive space but also an informal learning environment.
“When I see kids excited to pick rose apple or feed the fish, I feel proud,” said Ibu Niawati, a resident actively involved in the project. “It shows that this place is more than just a pond—it’s a part of our daily lives.”
Every year-end, the harvested fish become the highlight of a communal feast. Neighbors gather to cook and enjoy meals together, strengthening the bonds that keep the neighborhood united.
Looking ahead, the community plans to add benches and lighting around the area, making it more accessible for evening visits and relaxing moments. Some residents have also suggested putting up educational boards to teach children about fish and local plants.
From a forgotten lot to a space full of life, the RT 03 pond and garden stand as a testament to what collective spirit can achieve. It’s not just about fish or fruit—it’s about connection, care, and the joy of creating something together.
