Tangerang, 17 November 2025 — Students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang (UMT) from Group 1 delivered a presentation on “Understanding News Writing” in the News Feature and Editorial Writing course. The session covered public functions of news, news structure, and the inverted pyramid style.
Daffa Andhika Rizky explained the four public functions of news: education, information, social control, and event documentation, highlighting their importance for an informed and critical society.
The group also outlined the structure of a news story, including the headline, lead, body, and closing, supported with examples of proper and improper journalistic writing.
Muhammad Nabhan Afrizal presented the Inverted Pyramid Style, emphasizing how key information should appear at the beginning of a news story, especially for digital readers who often skim.
The presentation concluded by underscoring the importance of writing news that is accurate, concise, and clear as a foundation of journalistic practice.
